“Working together to combat sickle-cell disease in Burkina Faso.”
Sickle cell disease is the world’s leading genetic disease and a major public health issue for sub-Saharan Africa, where 75% of sickle cell births occur1. The Foundation seized upon this urgent health problem in 2006 and has since been pursuing sustained initiatives in diagnosis, treatment, awareness campaigns and research. The Fondation Pierre Fabre, well-known as one of the world’s key organisations involved in combating this disease, continues to advocate to have sickle cell disease recognised as part of the global health agenda and now helps to define structured institutional frameworks to ensure effective patient treatment.
