Albinism: the Fondation Pierre Fabre opens a call for project proposals

Given their condition, people with albinism are extremely vulnerable in several respects. In addition to the discrimination to which they are often subjected, they have an array of medical needs. They have severe vision problems which, if left untreated, often force them to drop out of school or education, leading to marginalization. Adults in this population frequently have to work outdoors, exposing them to the sun’s rays and increasing the risk of skin cancer, to which they already have a natural predisposition.

To address those needs, the Foundation has been working in six African countries for more than 7 years (Mali, Tanzania, Malawi, Togo, Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire), promoting the health and well-being of people with albinism through prevention and social and medical treatment programs.

With the goal of expanding its actions, the Foundation is launching a call for research project proposals from January 16, 2023, until March 31, 2023, aimed at improving knowledge, practices and dermatological treatment protocols for people with albinism in Sub-Saharan Africa. The maximum budget earmarked for this call for project proposals is 50,000 euros.

This call for project proposals is aimed at healthcare professionals (family doctors, pediatricians, dermatologists and other scientific experts).
