Vientiane – Welcoming the third Master Mekong Pharma class

The opening ceremony for the third class of the Master Mekong Pharma programme was held in Vientiane, Laos, on Monday, 27 October 2014.

The Laos University of Health Sciences, which hosted the ceremony in Vientiane, welcomed the students of this transregional master’s course.

This new class has 17 students, all with a pharmacy degree, including :
– 8 Cambodian graduates of the Cambodia’s University of Health Sciences in Phnom Penh,
– 4 Vietnamese graduates of the Hanoi University of Pharmacy,
– 1 graduate from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City,
– and 4 Laotian pharmacists with degrees from the University of Vientiane.

At this event, Mr Jérôme Dubois-Mercent, representing the Ambassador of France, also presented diplomas to the two Laotian students of the first Master Mekong Pharma class, who completed their studies with great success: Noudy Sengxeu and Niphonh Mongkhonmath. Noudy Sengxeu also officiated as mistress of ceremonies, speaking in impeccable French.

The ceremony began with a Wishing Dance performed by three students of the Faculty. Then came a succession of speeches by Associate Professor Somchith Boupha, Rector of the University, Associate Professor Sily Kenphachanh, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, the management of Fondation Pierre Fabre, and the Vice Minister of the Laotian Ministry the Health, who emphasised how well this master was aligned with the Ministry’s priorities, including improving human resources to help “create quality healthcare personnel, combining competence and ethics, to provide the population with the best service possible.

Lastly, serving as her class’ spokesperson, Noudy Sengxeu, who is joining the teaching staff at the Faculty of Vientiane, concluded with the following words: “We thank all our professors for the gift they gave us of their knowledge. A gift to which we are indebted today, and it is now up to us to pass on what we learned to other young people eager to learn.
